Spinal Cord Injury without Radiographic Abnormality (SCIWORA): a case report and literature review

Spinal cord injury without radiographic abnormality (SCIWORA) is a rare post-traumatic myelopathy, more frequently seen in paediatric population and elderly. Clinical manifestation can range from transient isolated paraesthesia to quadriplegia. Due its rarity adults the broad spectrum of neurological manifestations, SCIWORA actually represents challenge for emergency physicians. Early diagnosis timely intervention are crucial patient’s prognosis avoiding permanent deficits. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) plays pivotal role diagnosis, management SCIWORA, being golden standard technique identify spinal injuries. To highlight importance in-depth examination early we describe case 53-year-old woman who presented our department following forward fall down stairs with minor head injury.
